Mark is otherwise known as Dr. Mark Metzger, an Orthopaedic Surgeon with Oregon Spine and Joint in Portland. Since this guy is a doctor in a trusted and respected position, it makes his arrest for the crime of sex abuse somehow seem worse. I'm going to dig a little deeper before I take a PotShot at this creep, I'll update you as soon as I know more but he has been released and is on the streets as of Tuesday.

Non patient related. His patient care and ethics are the best you will find in Portland bar none. He does not cut to cut and he does charity cases which is unusual for a surgeon in this town. He actuall discourages people from surgery even though he could make a buck. Others have the done the surgery he recommened against and patients have stroked and died. You will not find a better professional.
This is one you should let things take their course before you bury the guy. The result will not be what you see booked. He is a danger to no one. Even the detective went to bat with the DA on behalf of this guy.....highly highly unusual you will all admit.
Know personally and the situation and its not what you think by just looking at a booking. The booking was a required element. Take a pill on this one lest you destroy a whole family and bunch of young kids over something you know nothing about.

Sex Abuse I is not something a DA lightly throws around, the DA's office doesn't just charge someone without some significant evidence or by a grand jury indictment. Im curious Mark, why would they target you?

Mark is a respected surgeon. I have worked with him since he has been in Portland. I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding. He has a very young family hum he loves very much. I agree. Mark is a very respected surgeon. I think anyone looking to bash him obviously needs someone to point fingers at. I'm sure this is more complicated than anyone thinks. Anyone can be accused of anything. Who's to say that some female knew he was an MD and ended up crying wolf. Let the justice system look at the evidence and then if he found guilty then you can talk. Being respected at your job has nothing to do with what kind of person you are at home or in private. Many of those that are convicted of sex crimes are very well liked by their peers and their community. Innocent until proven guilty yes, but would any of you leave your young daughter with this guy until he is proven innocent? It's always good to be aware of what a person may be capable of.

Yes, WE are the people who are standing not only there with him the OR but we are standing by him emotionally. I have worked with him from the time he started here in Portland and you can't work with someone that long without getting a real sense of the person. Yes, I have seen both the good and not so good sides of him but we all have those days. He is someone I would trust with my surgery & life!
I have worked with many surgeons in the OR for nearly 30 years. Sorry to say the ones who have been convicted of crimes or drug abuse are the ones I would least expect. Ones who I thought I knew. My famiy and theirs spent time together. It was hidden very well. I have also worked with Dr. Metzger. I am not saying he is guilty..I am just saying I have been shocked about others..and to book someone means it is taken pretty serious. We will see.
I confirm that Dr. M is a honest/caring doctor. Just because some gold digger wants to make a buck...someone has to go through hell. Not cool. Famous saying "a lie will travel half way around the world, while the truth will just be putting on its pants". Our heart goes out to you Dr. Metzger.

Mark is a great person and excellent father. Mark is a friend and I would trust him with my kids at anytime. Inocent until proven guilty and I would be very surprised if anything came of this. Still have no idea of what the accusations are.

Just want to point out that sex abuse 1 usually is charged when the victim is under 18 so this is no gold digger seeking doctor money.
Sexual Abuse I is any of these: sexual contact with a victim under 14, sexual contact by force, a victim forced to commit sexual contact while helpless or suffering from diminished mental capacity, or a victim under 18 forced to commit sex acts with animals.
I love the "booking was a required element" comment. He was booked because there is probable cause and evidence to suggest that a crime was committed. Period. Bookings don't just happen randomly and they are not a "required element" to conduct an investigation. There's evidence strong enough to warrant a booking and it's no more complicated than that.
Detectives "go to bat" for a suspect with the prosecutor all the time. Usually to get the prosecutor to ask for less bail or some type of conditional release after a suspect cooperates with an investigation. It means nothing. I've seen it a thousand times if I've seen it once.
He'll get his day in court and a chance to clear his name. Until then, he's just another guy with an arrest record.

If the accusations are true then this is a huge tradgedy for everyone involved and it should not be joked about as though it were funny.

You know I can tell that a lot of the comments on here are from his co-workers and what not... I have had dealings with him on more than one occasion and I cannot tell you one time that he has been pleasant or even remotely professional. Ask the staff that take care of his patients what a wonderful person he is. You will get a much different story! Ask them how often he yells at them. a booking is is necessary, only if there is enough evidence to go to trial. That is at the end of an investigation, after the police turn their files over to the county attorney, he(or she) decides if its enough to get a conviction, only then is a booking necessary. So to arrest someone for sex abuse the evidenced must be pretty strong and the county must be ready to prosecute. so its not just a compliant, its one that has be substantiated by the police.

Well, well...how the mighty have fallen! While I firmly believe he's innocent until proven guilty, I can't help thinking CARMA has finally caught up with Dr. M. This man, admittedly a talented doctor and surgeon, is consistently a first class ASS to most of the employees at Adventist. I've personally seen him scream, yell, throw ridiculous tantrums and treat staff horribly on a regular basis.
He has a legendary history of being difficult, and anyone working at Adventist that says differently is a LIAR... and either wants to sleep with him (he is hot, and a player!), or is part of the Dr.'s "Boy's Club", or for some reason is overly impressed with his self-glamorized wealth. I laughed when I read the OR staff at Adventist is "...standing by him..."! Of course you are... he is your bread and butter, kiddies, and with out his high volume of surgical referrals, you are all looking at being downsized!
Again, as much as the man is despised by many, it's apparent by his mug shot he has been dumped hard off his high horse. I do hope for the sake of his family that these allegations end up being untrue. What a horrible way to end a stellar professional career. Nothing has been shown by anyone other than he has been arrested. Still haven't seen what he is accused of other than sex abuse 1. Still waiting to hear what the actual charges are.

yes, he has only been arrested, but arrested for sex abuse I, which is a felony. Everyone has the right to know who in the communtiy has been charged with a felony. He will have his day in court. If he exonerated, then his name will be clear, and he may sue for false arrest.

I happen to have worked with Dr Metzger and got to know him and this is likely to bankrupt him since his practice has been ruined by an dubius website that cares nothing about the truth only the to fill a vacuum.
I have a defense attorney friend, she is really hot, I digress. Anyway, she says that with any sex related charge....the client is told not to make any statements even if you are innocent. In fact when I told here there was some comment here that this guy I know talked to a detective....she said that is highly unusual in that regardless of guilt or innocence....it would be professional malpractice in such cases for a defense attorney to allow client to talk to detective. So either his attorney doesnt mind being sued for malpractice, or he is an idiot or there is much more to this story than any one can speculate on here and it tends to fall in his favor if indeed he decided to talk to a detective regard of counsels advice.

Any liscensed (IE MD) person has to voluntarily report and turn in thier lis within 10 days of being arrested for even a misdemeanor. The Oregon Medical Board does their own indpendent investigation and they are slower than Trey. Minimum 6 months no matter what the charge.....that will Bankrupt Dr Metzger.
Moving out of the house is a requirement of the charge. He is not to be around any minors period until this investigation is completed.
I have heard that both sides of his family are standing behind him.....so that means something to me, not that it means anything to Trey...nothing sensational in that is there.

The news channels are keeping this quiet. I emailed news channel 8 about this a few days ago and they haven't covered it. I'm curious why no one has brought up Dr. Jordi Kellogg, who also practices at Adventist. His license was revoked becuse of his cocaine/drug addiction. He was unable to practice 5+ years ago because of it.

This is true - surgeons are not known for being great people persons. Thats part of why they are surgeons and not family practice doctors. Brilliant surgeons but full of themselves.
Dr. Metzger is a caring physician and so skilled. I know. His skills replace an old hip replacement in 2008, and I was scheduled for a 2nd hip revision in April. As a senior the carethat I have received at Adventist refutes all of the vile bilge in the above blogs. I know. I have had 12 procedures that since Nov 2004. To refute the money gubbing aspect of some of the somments, one proceduress was billed at $14,000. Insurance write off was over $ 10,000; they were not paid that amount; I did not pay that ammount. My good Dr. Metzger, I thank you for you car.

We had this same kind of situation happen here in this town a fews years back with one of the most well liked and favorite teachers in our High School.

Dr Metzger did my surgery and about 2 days later I had the worst pain in my shoulder. I complained about it to him and he pretty much told me it was all in my head. I finally demanded an MRI and ended up back in surgery with fluid built up in my shoulder. Dr Metzger was annoyed with me and made some very serious accusations about me without finding out his facts first.
He is very full of himself!!!!

I begin by saying that i do not know Dr. M, only of him as a physician. I have just spent 30 minutes reading every single blog on this site as it was forwarded to me by another orthopedic surgeon as an FYI. IF Dr. M committed these crimes, I am horrified. IF he did not, I am horrified as his life will never be the same and neither will his family's. I get that this is supposed to be "funny." Unfortunately, that is not really the manner in which people respond to something this horrible. I am shocked by the venom of many of the responses and how quick we are to gain joy in someone else's fall or pain. A few weeks ago Dr. M's office called me to cancel my appointment with him for an assessment re a lower spine issue. He had done a fusion and laminectomy on me several years ago which was a very positive experience for me. However, when I had my last follow-up appointment after that surery, I asked about resuming a sex life with my spouse. He drew me a sketch of two dogs, one humping the other and wrote: "Rx" 2xday the rest of your life. It blind-sided me and left me feeling used and abused...totally, totally left me with a negative opinion about his moral integrity. It's a very difficult and delicate situation for many, many people, especially for those who have been the victims and targets of those with BAD character. Un-resolved character issues are poisin to those who are assaulted by such abusers. But don't forget, hurt people hurt people. I want to say that again, "hurt people hurt people." That statement does not condone at all the wrongs and harm they have committed and perpetrated! They need to be held accountable! I know a few people with past bad character issues who have turned their lives around, even after incarceration, and have put their despicable experience history to positive use. It can be done, but few are those who have accomplished that.
Dr. M., I hope you can be one of those few. If I come to your hearing, it will not be because I am a sensation or curiosity seeker. I am a healed heart seeker. That is what I want for all hurt people.

There is an O.R. nurse Nancy, she is a fat lazy hack, often not prepared for cases, and always ready with an excuse that pre-op had a chart or some such. The business manager barb constantly enters operating rooms unnecessarily increasing infection potentials for people because she thinks her issue of discussion is more important than keeping a patient safe. Not to mention when she interrupts the case to talk about non-related issues. Carol Kunau, dir of peri-op services refused to allow staff to treat a female child who came to the E.R. with 2 drunk uncles, and could not tell anyone how she broke her arm. Furthermore staff were coerced into not reporting suspected child abuse. Jeff Boskind all but killed a patient when doing a bi-lateraql thoracic procedure w/out Bypass avail. Their primary earner aside from Brett(whom i also love), that being Tim Treible, has assulted staff and is protected by administratioin who manufactures documentation to get rid of people who are victims. Metzger has never treated staff unfairly, if you were getting yelled at it was probably because as the norm, you were practicing bad patient care. Some other staff who suck there are Lynn in clean core, who has a big mouth but not even CPR certification, thats right she cant even keep you breathing! Course she is probably still baked from smokin weed with her blue collar husband. Maybe KATU can use these names to look up you staffers who bash him and ask you to go on record. The fact that everyone thinks he only practices at one place shows your lack of the facts of who this man is and what he does professionally or personally. PORTLAND, Ore. -- An orthopedic surgeon is facing a sex abuse charge.
Mark Metzger was arrested March 2 on suspicion of one count of sex abuse and was released the same day, Portland officers said.
Investigators are tight-lipped about the case, but said they don't believe the charge is related to the suspect's practice.
Police did say the case somehow involves children, but declined to give additional details.
The investigation is ongoing.
